There are two strands, based on grade level, within the literacy focus: Elementary Middle school and secondary The focus area courses require students to engage in extensive reading, writing and discussion, as well as providing practical strategies and techniques to implement in the classroom. Core Master's Course Work The 21 hours of core course work in this degree program include study in learning theory, instructional technology, instructional leadership, instructional strategies, measurement and assessment, and action research. These courses are designed to enhance the process of teaching and learning in the elementary, middle or high school classroom. Students may enroll in up to six credit hours of course work (two courses) prior to admission to the degree program. This allows an opportunity to begin course work before initiating the admission process. However, for these hours to transfer into the student's degree program admission must be finalized and the student must be admitted to the degree program by completion of the six hours.
