This course is designed to encourage and offer opportunity for independent research of high calibre by the student. Credit is conditioned upon the completion of an acceptable research paper on some topic approved in writing prior to registration by the Faculty Coordinator for Advanced Legal Research and by the faculty member under whose supervision the paper is to be prepared. Subject to variation depending upon the faculty member, student, and topic, it is suggested that the paper format be that of a law review comment with footnotes; that it have a length of not less than 25 pages; and that the process of developing it include the scheduling of discussion and review of written scope notes, outlines, and drafts, as well as the final product. This course may not be taken during the summer session. However, this does not preclude a student's undertaking unsupervised research and background reading during the summer. This course is limited to two credits which may be awarded once during a law student's enrollment. Double credit will not be awarded for the same paper submitted in another course.
