Mental Health from The Community College of Baltimore County is a Campus Associate Counseling degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. This program is designed to prepare students to work in a variety of mental health and human services agencies. This curriculum is designed to train students to work as members of a mental health services delivery team and to render service directly to clients who may be in need of counseling, therapy, education or help with social problems. Graduates of the program are employed in mental hospitals, community mental health clinics, centers for developmentally disabled, substance abuse treatment programs and other agencies responsible for the mental health and human service needs of the community. The first step of the process is to apply for admission to CCBC. Once the student receives a CCBC ID number and a student SIMON account, the applicant should go to his/her SIMON account, select the Student Services tab, and locate the desired application under the Admission section. School of Health Professions Policies: Students in the School of Health Professions are expected to conduct themselves according to an honor code, exhibit professional behavior, communicate effectively in English, provide proof of health insurance and immunizations, and are asked to submit to a criminal background check and may be asked to undergo random urine drug testing. Program Outcomes Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 1. evaluate and track a case to determine the appropriate intervention strategies; 2. conduct assessment interviews and provide therapeutic communication to diverse client groups; 3. co-lead psycho-educational treatment groups; 4. conduct a crisis assessment; 5. demonstrate the values, attitudes, and professional behavior important to becoming a mental health/human service worker; and 6. write progress notes, treatment plans, and psychosocial histories as practiced in the field of mental health/human services.
