Art Therapy - The College of New Rochelle

Art Therapy from The College of New Rochelle is a Campus Bachelor Study of Art degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. Art Therapy majors combine studio courses with electives introducing them to the techniques and theoretical practices of their discipline. Throughout our four-year program, students participate in ongoing art colloquia and seminars designed to provide cohesiveness within the various aspects of the program. The junior and senior years offer all majors the opportunity for focused research and in-depth study in seminars, internships, and independent studies that encourage professional development and inquiry into each student's potential as an individual, an artist, and art professional. Art therapy majors must also complete at least one internship experience. In cooperation with the College's Psychology Department, our pre-professional program in Art Therapy leads to a B.S. or B.F.A. degree in Art Therapy. Students in Art Therapy may also follow the Competency-Based Teacher Education Program if they wish to qualify for teacher certification. Every Art major presents a senior exhibition. Students may elect to complete a senior research paper in conjunction with their individualized programs. The Art Department also offers a minor in Art Therapy, which requires a minimum of 18 credits (12 credits must be taken at The College of New Rochelle . . The faculty of the Art Department consists of five full-time members supported by adjunct faculty members from the professional art community. The Visiting Artist Lecture Program provides further variety in the curriculum. In addition to numerous art studios, student have access to the latest technology, including a MacIntosh computer laboratory, the Visual Resources Collection, a complete black and white photography studio and, in cooperation with the Communication Arts Department and the Media Center, a full complement of audio and video studios and course offerings. Exhibition opportunity is available in the Mooney Center, complemented by abundant opportunities to view art at the Castle Gallery and in the surrounding communities of New York City and Westchester. The submission of a portfolio of 14 to 20 pieces is required for admission as a B.F.A. Art Therapy major in the Art Department. Freshmen and transfer students entering the B.S. Art Therapy may submit a portfolio for assessment, advisement, and consideration for an art scholarship. In the case of transfer students applying to a B.F.A. program, the portfolio review can be accomplished following enrollment in courses, but prior to the second semester enrollment, during the time that a final transfer credit evaluation is completed.
