In the fall of 2000, the Department of Communication Disorders at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center was approved for the first Doctor of Audiology program in Texas in the twenty-first century. Presently, we have approximately 35-40 students enrolled in our doctoral program. The history of our program is to keep the size of each class small enough so that students benefit from individualized mentoring from faculty. At the same time, our students enjoy clinical experiences all across the United States in local school districts, major medical centers, in conjunction with physician practices, in independent private practices and industrial settings. Our faculty come from a variety of backgrounds: psychoacoustics, balance function, cochlear implants, otoacoustic emissions, educational audiology, rehabilitation and counseling audiology , and selective auditory attention.This diversity offers unique perspectives in the field of audiology and access to a wealth of information and clinical/applied practice for our students. The program is located in a newly constructed facility in the heart of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The 15,000 sq. ft. facility provides the most up-to-date facilities available for both patients and students.
