The Master of Science in Reading Program prepares literacy professionals who ground pedagogical practice in current theory and research. The focus of the program is candidates' development as literacy educators. Participants gain expertise in reading and literacy education and are prepared to be literacy leaders. This 36-hour program adheres to the standards of the International Reading Association for the preparation of reading professionals. In addition to the master's degree , individuals may choose to pursue either reading specialist or master reading teacher state certification, or they may specialize in one of the four cognate areas of study: bilingual education, early childhood education , curriculum and instruction, or English. Graduates of the Master of Science in Reading Program have gone on to teach students of all ages and subject matters.
