The department plays several key roles: The mission of the department is to recruit top students to major in Accounting and to prepare them for business careers and for continuing graduate education. Students majoring in the department have numerous opportunities for networking and advising by their participation in Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honor society. The department helps prepare students to sit for a number of certification exams. These are the CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) and CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner). Selected classes are tailored to prepare students for portions of these certification tests. Departmental faculty are actively engaged in research and publish regularly in scholarly journals.
