Program Format: Campus Program Level: Associate

Teacher Education Transfer from SUNY College of Technology at Delhi is a Campus Associate Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. Do you have what it takes to teach? Find out here. Our program provides you with three options (Early Childhood, Childhood and Adolescent) and allows you to transfer as a junior to complete your teacher education and training throughout the SUNY system. Many students in Delhi's Liberal Arts and Sciences programs express interest in teaching careers, and many students pursue bachelor degrees in education upon leaving Delhi. The three Teacher Education Transfer options described below are an integral part of Delhi's efforts to provide multiple pathways for students to put a liberal arts degree into practice. The Teacher Education Transfer options provide students with knowledge, skills, theory, and hands-on educational experiences that prepare them for transfer to four-year institutions with New York State teacher-certification authority. Graduates will be able to transfer with full credit and junior status into participating SUNY four-year teacher-education programs. Students in the Teacher Education Transfer programs begin fulfilling their liberal arts concentration requirements along with taking courses in education theory and practice. Concentration areas offered at Delhi include the following: biology, chemistry, English, general science, history/social studies, mathematics, and physics. Each of the three Teacher Education Transfer options requires a minimum of 62 credit hours for graduation. The Teacher Education Transfer options are designed to prepare students for transfer to classroom teacher preparation programs in three areas: early childhood, childhood, and adolescence education. Early Childhood Education spans birth through grade 2, Childhood Education spans grades 1-6, and Adolescence Education spans grades 7-12. (Those with Childhood Education certification can also qualify to teach middle school by taking additional coursework in a subject area specialty.) A student who plans carefully can normally expect to transfer to a four-year institution with full junior status. Since transfer institutions may have differing requirements, students should plan their program of study with a transfer counselor and an academic advisor as early as possible, preferably before beginning their first semester at Delhi.
