Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Theatre Plattsburgh's theatre major, like others within the School of Arts and Science, is a broad-based liberal arts major, designed to stimulate breadth of education and exploration but with a focus on the theatrical arts. All students will receive a basic grounding in acting, stagecraft, theatre history and dramatic literature with opportunities to concentrate on one or another of these through electives. Courses such as Scene Study, Movement Study, Plays in Rehearsal and Playwriting emphasize creative expression. The critical analysis and historical perspectives of theatre are explored in Theatre History, Musical Theatre and The Performer and the Spectator. Skills in production and design are developed in courses including Stagecraft, Production Design, and Masks and Makeup. The major program culminates in the Senior Project. Recent projects have included original playscripts, direction, vocal recitals, lighting plots and scholarly essays. Benefits of a B.A. in Theatre Nearly all theatre majors are regularly involved in productions, either performing in them or in various backstage capacities.
