Painting from SUNY College at Buffalo is a Campus Bachelor Painting degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. All freshmen and transfer students enter the B.F.A. program through required portfolio review. Those admitted as freshmen or as transfers with fewer than four semesters in college must be examined for the major prior to their last four semesters in the program. Students admitted as upper-division transfers must be examined for the major at the end of the first semester in the program. The application for a major is the most critical evaluation in the program. Eligibility will be determined by a two-member faculty committee on the basis of an interview with the student and a review of his or her portfolio. Each B.F.A. student will be required to mount an individual exhibition of his or her work. It will be planned and installed with the advice of the student's faculty adviser, but no grade will be assigned. The Fine Arts Department reserves the right to retain students' artwork for official purposes, such as exhibits, catalogs, or teaching aids. Career Information Fine arts students become professional artists in their major (painting, photography, printmaking, or sculpture). Some also may pursue commercial work in related vocations requiring their expertise, such as advertising, photography, photojournalism, art printing, pattern and model making, illustration, and restoration. Graduates have been hired as artists, graphic artists, photographers, illustrators, printers, directors, managers, and professors.
