Medical Instrument Sterilization Technician from Stark State College of Technology is a Campus Associate Medicine degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. A medical instrument sterilization technician is responsible for the correct decontamination processing and sterilization of all items in the hospital and/or clinic that require sterilization. The students in this program work in the central service area and are trained in principles, methods and control of the sterilization processes, cleaning, processing, packaging, distributing, storing and inventory control of sterile goods, instruments, trays, and equipment in the hospital/clinical setting. The medical instrument sterilization technician program prepares students for professional careers as technicians employed by hospitals and medical clinics to sterilize and clean medical instruments used in surgical procedures and treatment of patients. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the examination required to become a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) after successful completion of the certificate program. Students who complete additional coursework and two additional semesters of study earn an associate of technical studies degree with a major in medical instrumentation sterilization technology. The program is offered through a collaborative effort between Stark State College and Mercy Medical Center.
