Program Description The CACE Program prepares students for employment in a variety of educational and human service positions by providing courses in gerontology, health and nutrition, human development, managing behavior, inclusive learning environments, curriculum planning, implementing strategies for learning, and practical experience. Students who successfully complete the program will have the qualifications to apply for a center-based assistant teacher position. After one year of experience, graduates qualify for a head teacher position. In addition, the completion of credit courses offers several options for fulfilling training and in-service requirements for assistant teachers, teachers, director, paraprofessionals, family child care professionals and other interested individuals. The program courses are in agreement with the Department of Human Services (DHS) licensing guidelines for child care providers. Membership in MnAEYC, NAEYC or other professional organizations is strongly recommended. Applicants to the CACE Program must complete any college readiness courses with a passing grade, if indicated by their Accuplacer scores prior to enrolling in the CACE Program courses. Before being placed in an Internship, students will be required to complete and submit a Department of Human Service (DHS) Background Study Form; Pre-Entrance Medical Exam; and an Immunization Record. Graduates will be capable of planning learning activities, managing programs and daily routines, preparing materials, and managing the health and safety of children and/or vulnerable adults.
