Computer Systems Engineering Program Goals Program Objective: To prepare graduates with the necessary skills to design, apply, install, manage, operate, and/or troubleshoot computer hardware, commonly used operating systems, networks of computer systems, and the network infrastructure. The graduate should be able to demonstrate competence in the understanding, installation and configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrading of workstations and servers in a networked environment. The graduate should be able to demonstrate competence in the understanding, installation and configuration, troubleshooting, patching, and upgrading of common computer operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. The graduate should be able to demonstrate competence in the understanding, installation and configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrading of common computer hardware and peripherals. The graduate should be able to demonstrate competence in the understanding, installation and configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrading of Cisco networking equipment. The graduate should be able to demonstrate competence in the understanding, installation and configuration, and troubleshooting of server-based applications such as firewalls, domain name systems (DNS), database servers, security monitors, and backup & recovery tools. The graduate should be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. The graduate should be able to conduct research from a variety of sources.
