Program Description Orthotics and Prosthetics is the design and fabrication of braces and artificial limbs and is one of today's rapidly growing health-related professions. Advancing materials technology and an increasing demand for orthotic-prosthetic services has led to an increase in the amount of technical support needed. There are many opportunities for the students completing a formal training program in orthotics and prosthetics. The primary objective is to train students in the general fabrication procedures of orthotic and prosthetic devices, which include working with plastic, metal, leather, plaster, and orthotic and prosthetic components. Subjects covered include related human anatomy, technology of materials, hand and power tools, equipment, and laboratory safety. A certificate is awarded at the completion of the Orthotics program and at the completion of the Prosthetics program. Program Goals Be able to fabricate lower extremity, spinal and upper extremity orthotic and prosthetic devices at a standard equal to or greater than an entry level capability . Possess the knowledge, skills, attitude and abilities necessary to obtain employment as a technician in the orthotics-prosthetics profession.
