Patient, family and public education are essential to the mission of the profession. Respiratory care services are provided in all health care facilities (acute, subacute/long term, skilled nursing) and in the home. Career Opportunities Graduates of the respiratory therapy program in the past have enjoyed 100 percent employment rate. It is expected that the field will increase 50 percent, with most openings in acute care. Most graduates seek their first employment in acute facilities; but positions are available in clinics/physician offices, pulmonary rehabilitation, long term care and home care. The mobility of the respiratory care practitioner not only includes geographical mobility, but includes upward mobility to supervision, management, research, sales/marketing, and educator positions.
