Program Description The Greenhouse Nursery program provides a study of ornamental plant materials, plant propagation, greenhouse construction and nursery and greenhouse management methods. At the completion of the second year, the student may receive the associate in applied science degree . Courses may be offered only in the quarter indicated. Outlined curriculum assumes students begin the program fall quarter and continue winter and spring quarters, with summer quarter off. It is recommended that students work closely with the program adviser or department chair when planning classes. Program Goals Identify the major ornamental plants used in Washington State and know their landscape potential. Diagnose basic causes of plant problems (i.e., insect, disease, and abiotic) and suggest appropriate remedies. Apply basic growing, planting and maintenance practices to greenhouse, container and field grown stock during the course of a year. Apply the basic concepts of greenhouse management to a commercial greenhouse business. Apply basic techniques of sexual and asexual plant propagation in the commercial production of plants.
