The General Specialization provides a well-rounded education in agronomy. It encompasses the basics in horticulture, field crop production, and soils, allowing the student great flexibility to pursue any mix of the several specialties within the department. It also allows the stuent to explore fields of knowledge outside the department. What facilities are at SIU? Several facilities are available for students to obtain hands-on experience, including the SIUC Horticulture Research Center. This Center houses the greenhouses and the field research and education laboratories. Undergraduate classes and labs are frequently held at the Center to provides hands-on learning experiences. Internships with various crop and green industries are encouraged to broaden learning experiences and are available through our partnerships with various companies and government agencies. What are my career opportunities? A wide range of excellent career opportunities are available for students graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Plant , Soil and Agricultural Systems. These careers include: grain, vegetable, fruit and ornamentals production; soil conservation and management; golf course, grounds and sports turf management; seed production and crop scouting; landscape design and installation; and green and crop industry sales.
