The vocal track also includes an exit requirement of knowledge of German, French, Italian, and English diction using IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). SIU offers its students valuable experience in these areas through participation in Opera and Musical Theater Productions and Workshops, studio accompanying in both the vocal and instrumental areas, chamber music, choral accompaniment, and duo piano repertoire. Most students accepted into the program will receive a Graduate Assistantship in Accompanying that waives all tuition (up to 12 hours each semester) and includes a yearly stipend around $6000.
