Long hours of practicing and performing?under the right instruction ?will equip you to sing anything: from arias and R&B to gospel and Gershwin. Southeastern will help you develop your talent to the glory of God, the edification of yourself and the delight of your audiences. If God has gifted you with a special voice and a love for songs, music and performance, Southeastern can help you develop the vocal technique, repertoire and other knowledge to sing professionally. Our voice professors will teach you time-proven techniques that will extend your range and enable you to sing with greater ease. Your education here will include many performance opportunities, such as musicals and an annual production of opera scenes where you can practice your craft. Southeastern also will prepare you for a lifetime of ministry, whether through singing in churches or through sharing Christ with non-believers in the arts world. A Firm Foundation Our music performance-vocal program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world He has made. As you forge links between what you?ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life. Within the music performance major itself, you?ll first take core courses that?ll form your foundation as a musician: theory, music history, ear training, lessons and piano. You?ll also participate in ensembles?the context in which all musicians must perform to fully be a musician. Your specialized voice courses will consist of studio, classroom and stage components. Your studio training will enable you to develop solid and healthy vocal techniques so you become free to explore a range and depth of vocal sounds without injuring your voice. In the classroom you?ll learn vocal literature from the European Baroque period to songs of today, proper diction for singing in English, Italian, French and German and how to masterfully communicate through vocal nuance, facial expressions, gestures and other aspects of singing. You?ll also learn how to conduct and teach others to sing. Professors & Performers Southeastern professors are consistently involved in musical performance in the community. All faculty are active performers around the state of Florida. Faculty accomplishments include: lead roles in operas and oratorios, vocal performances for commercial entertainment corporations, composition and production of nationally recognized CDs, principal seated performers in orchestras and chamber orchestras, nationally recognized clinicians, master class instructors, teachers at the elementary, secondary, and university level, and adjudicators at state and private contests for instrumental and vocal fine arts festivals. What's Next? Southeastern?s music performance graduates attend graduate school where performance demands are greater, where they can apply their craft in a more professional setting and where they can mingle with professionals in the field. Our music graduates have entered graduate music programs at Georgia State, Oklahoma State, and Florida State universities. After further training, music performance graduates can sing in recitals, operas and musical theater, record in studios, conduct choirs and teach voice on the college level or in a private studio.
