Southeastern?s instrumental music performance program enables students to turn their passion into a career by honing their music talents to the highest degree in a supportive Christian environment. Our music performance-instrumental program intersperses music classes with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world He has made. Instrumental Performance The instrumental music performance program begins with music theory classes that form the basis for the more advanced, practical course work. In order to be a well-rounded music student, you must also understand the historical and cultural environments which lead to the production of music in each time period. To develop your abilities on your instrument you will study weekly with a music professor, who will help you enhance your craft. You?ll also be able to play in a wide array of ensembles ? jazz, wind, orchestral, percussion, brass, and string? which will give you an extensive and well-rounded music education. Campus ensembles, local groups, and our annual performance of opera, chamber music, and broadway musicals, provide you with a plethora of opportunities to gain additional music performance experience. Courses in orchestration and conducting will equip you with other crucial skills you?ll need to excel in music. In addition to classes, your musical training at Southeastern will include junior and senior recitals, which test the proficiency of each instrumental music student. These juried performances gauge progress in the program and provide students with an aural portfolio of their training. They also push students to become the best musicians they can be.
