And we?ve all experienced it, whether engaging with a thought-provoking television program, reading a compelling newspaper story, or feeling our hearts pound during a riveting scene in a film or play. After the encounter, we?ve discovered ourselves changed. At Southeastern, we believe that our culture?s many forms of communication media, in the hands of skilled and faithful Christians, may be employed to connect with people in a profound way, to touch?and change?their lives. Communication media like broadcasting, journalism/public relations, and theatre are powerful instruments, given to us to be used, responsibly and capably, in God?s service. This is our calling. Southeastern?s communication program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. From there, you delve into our communication core, required of all communication majors, before branching off into your chosen concentration. Our approach to all forms of communication arts?from video to print and television to stage?is current and hands on, so you gain the practical knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen career. And because our approach is also biblical, you gain a deep understanding of your moral and ethical responsibilities as a Christian, as well as a professional. While you?re a student, we encourage you to pursue community service opportunities and internships that allow you to gain plenty of practical experience. Southeastern communication students are active in community arts programs, ranging from theatre to dance, art shows to concerts. Recently, students have held internships as nearby as Orlando, Tampa, and Miami and as far away as Los Angeles and New York. As you intern, while you?re learning, you?re also using your expertise to make meaningful contributions to organizations large and small. But the opportunities don?t even end there. Southeastern students often have the opportunity to undertake freelance production work for professional clients on an as-needed basis. All told, if you?re like most of our communication majors, you graduate from Southeastern with at least 300 hours of practical experience. And that gives you quite a head start on employment.
