Radiologic Technology - Southeast Community College Area

Radiologic Technology from Southeast Community College Area is a Campus Associate Radiology degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Overview SCC?s Radiologic Technology program teaches the safe use of radiation to produce images of the human body for diagnostic purposes. Students will learn the knowledge and skills required for critical thinking, problem-solving and effective communication in the radiology field. Students also will be prepared to practice within the ethical, professional and legal boundaries required of this profession. Students are admitted to the program in January and July, depending on the clinical site. The didactic portion is comprised of classes on SCC?s Lincoln Campus or online. The clinical component involves on-site education at pre-approved hospitals and clinics in the student?s vicinity. Students are responsible for transportation to the clinical sites, tuition, books, and other related costs. Program graduates become eligible to take the national examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and apply for state licensure. Mission The mission of the Radiologic Technology program is to prepare competent Radiologic Technologists. Job Outlook According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of radiologic technologists is expected to increase by about 15 percent through 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. As the population grows and ages, there will be an increasing demand for diagnostic imaging. In addition to job growth, job openings also will arise from the need to replace technologists who leave the occupation. Radiologic technologists willing to relocate and who also are experienced in more than one diagnostic imaging procedure, such as CT, MR, and mammography, will have the best employment opportunities as employers seek to control costs by using multi-credentialed employees. Locally, the job market has declined due to Nebraska?s current economy. This is expected to change as the economy strengthens and technologists retire.
