Dietetics & Nutritional Management from Sinclair Community College is a Campus Associate Dietetics degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Graduates of the Dietetic Technician (DIT) program are trained food and nutrition practitioners. They work under the supervision of a registered dietitian. As an integral member of the health-care and foodservice management teams, they influence food choices and lifestyles to promote optimal health. The program consists of five major domains that include clinical , community, education, management and foodservice systems. The curriculum includes 456 hours of non-paid directed practice. Students are required to complete these experiences at area community, foodservice and health care facilities. The program is designed to be completed in two academic years. Some students elect to attend on a part-time basis, extending the length of study to three academic years. To enroll in dietetic technician classes, an individual must be accepted into the DIT program. An overall grade point average of 2.0 is a requirement of admission and must be maintained in order to continue in the program. A grade of ?C? is required in all dietetic and mandatory general education courses. A cumulative grade point average of at least ?C? (2.0) is required for graduation. The graduate is eligible to take the National Credentialing Exam to become a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR). Students must submit a Life and Health Science (LHS) application electronically. Following LHS application submission, applicants will receive a DIT Applicant Information Packet which outlines admission requirements into the DIT Program. Program Outcomes Demonstrate professional practice in accordance with the American Dietetic Association and participate in life long learning. Translate nutritional needs into food choices and menus for all people, including those of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions. Document nutrition and related data in the medical record and plan of care for clients/patients, communicating these to their families and the health team providers. Design, implement and maintain community-based food and nutrition programs. Monitor the production, distribution, and service of food that meets the established criteria for nutrition, sanitation/safety, cost, and consumer acceptance. Educate clients/patients/consumers/employees in health promotion, disease prevention, medical nutrition therapy, and food system management using effective oral, written, and other nonverbal communication.
