Based on personal and career interests, students may select AAAS degree options: Early Childhood Educator/Paraeducator. These programs are designed to meet paraeducator requirements set by the State of Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) as well as the lead teacher requirements established by the State of Washington childcare licensing standards, the State of Washington ECEAP standards and the national Head Start performance standards. Students learn about the social, emotional, language and intellectual development of children as well as specific strategies for encouraging healthy development. Students also learn how to develop group activities, plan a curriculum, guide individuals and groups of children, and effectively communicate with children, families and co-workers. Internships provide students with an opportunity to integrate classroom coursework, increase confidence and gain valuable experience. All courses are taught from a multicultural perspective.
