This program prepares individuals for employment as medical laboratory technicians (MLT) . Medical laboratory technicians (MLT) are able to apply for jobs in hospital, reference, pharmaceutical, and research laboratories. In the Medical Laboratory Technology program students are trained to examine and analyze body fluids and cells looking for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms and to analyze the chemical content of fluids. Students will train to perform tests used in patient diagnosis or biomedical and drug research. Medical Laboratory Technology program curriculum will include: Phlebotomy Urinalysis Hematology Microbiology Immunohematology Clinical Chemistry Lab Safety and the use of clinical and basic laboratory instruments. Students are prepared to be competent in the performance of manual and automated lab procedures, and the application of quality control principles. Completion of the Medical Laboratory Technology program awards an Applied Technology Diploma that will transfer 40 semester hours toward the Medical Laboratory Technology Associates Degree (MLT-AD). Transfer credits must be awarded within 3 years of program completion. The Medical Laboratory Technology program prepares individuals for employment as medical laboratory technicians (MLT). MLT?s are able to apply for jobs in diagnostic, pharmaceutical, and research laboratories. In the program students are trained to examine body fluids and cells looking for abnormal blood cells, bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms and to analyze the chemical content of fluids. Students will be trained to perform tests used in patient diagnosis or biomedical and drug research. Clinical rotations are provided in area hospitals, specialty laboratories and reference laboratories.
