Our aviation program began in the 1930's as Edison Technical College and transformed into the SSCC program in 1968. We provide the training and teach the skills necessary to become an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. After completing the two-year program our students are certified to take the FAA Airframe and Power plant (A&P) exams and then go on to work on any aircraft in the world. The A&P certificate is also recognized in many other industries, such as power companies and elevator mechanics . We Have a Place for You... Whatever your background, experience, or age you will fit right in. Our typical class includes men and women of all ages (even some in their 70s)! Our students also include those who have many years of experience in aviation and those who are just beginning their discovery of the industry. Career Outlook ?Opportunities for aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and service technician jobs should be excellent for persons who have completed aircraft mechanic training programs. Employment is expected to increase about as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2014, and large numbers of additional job openings should arise from the need to replace experienced mechanics who retire. Over the next decade passenger traffic is expected to increase as the result of an expanding economy and a growing population, and the need for aircraft mechanic and service technicians will grow. If the number of graduates from aircraft mechanic training programs continues to fall short of employer needs, opportunities for graduates of mechanic training programs should be excellent. Most job openings for aircraft mechanics through the year 2014 will stem from replacement needs. If the trend continues, the supply of trained aviation mechanics will not be able to keep up with the needs of the air transportation industry."
