Description: The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Technical Theatre will prepare students in all aspects of theatre technology and aid them in applying for positions such as set and exhibit construction, painting, mounting and managing; stage lighting and sound; and properties construction and management. Additionally, back-stage technical theatre personnel skills will be developed. Program Competencies: Analyze and apply the basic communication strategies required for communicating with theatre directors, designers, and other technical crew. Analyze and apply the basic elements and principles of production, styles, and/or historical perspectives of theatre , dramatic literature, and criticism. Analyze dramatic literature within its political, historical, and cultural contexts and as examined from the perspective of the playwright's structure and style. Differentiate between the various period styles and key elements of a play and prepare the sketches necessary to develop the visual elements of a script. Analyze and execute the steps involved in the design process of technical theatre productions including drafting techniques, construction of scenery, lighting, and properties. Outline and apply the basic theories and methods of stage lighting for all production types. Analyze the role of the theatre designer in creating scenic, lighting, costume, sound, and multimedia effects for stage productions and the impact of dramatic themes and vision to the audience. Outline the required components of stage properties including design, construction, and maintenance features and design/produce a series of props using a variety of techniques including clay molding, traditional upholstering, gilding, and other finishes. Outline the basic theories and methods of stage drafting and design rendering and implement the skills in preparing technical theatre drawings. Analyze and apply the basic pre-visualization methods used to communicate ideas in entertainment preproduction as implemented in scale models for stage design. Outline and apply the basic theories and methods of utilizing 2D and 3D computer-aided design for technical theatre drawings. Analyze the technical and organizational aspects of stage management for the preparation and implementation of rehearsals and performances for the stage manager position. Outline the required components for vitae/resume development for technical theatre personnel and investigate job opportunities in technical theatre and related fields. Analyze and execute the basic theories and skills in scenic artistry, including the techniques of painting 2D and 3D scenery, tools used, and the use of color. Analyze the elements of a Technical Theatre/Design Portfolio including digital portfolios and application to specific disciplines.
