Motion Picture/Television Production from Scottsdale Community College is a Campus Associate Film degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. Description: The Motion Picture/Television Production Program is designed for students who plan to enter the field of motion pictures and/or television production. Successful completion of this program will qualify students for the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree . Students will receive "hands-on" practical training in a fine arts learning environment and may select one or more of several specialization "tracks" within the Associate in Applied Science degree. Program Competencies: Review the history and development of the art of motion pictures including the aesthetic and technical elements. Trace the history of the development of American radio and television and describe the role, responsibilities and purposes of mass communications in American society. Identify and describe the basic elements of pre-production for motion picture and television. Pre-produce one film and one video project. Identify and describe the basic elements of production for motion picture and television. Produce one film and one video shoot. Identify and describe the elements of post-production for motion picture and television. Complete the post-production and marketing plan for one film and one video project. Track I: Screenwriting Develop an outline or paradigm for a short film script and write a short script. Write a script for a short non-fiction film , a non-linear art film, and/or commercial videos. Write a script for a situation comedy. Write a script for a television drama. Write and critique and rewrite the first act of an original screenplay for a feature film or television. Write and critique the second act of an original screen/teleplay. Develop an original idea into a feature length screen/teleplay with a three-act structure. Evaluate and critique the screenplays and rewrite to make them commercial. Develop plans for marketing the screenplays to a variety of media. Critique the content and execution of a film demonstrating knowledge of the art and technology of filmmaking and various approaches to the critical analysis of film . Track II: Broadcast Production Write a script for a short non-fiction film, a non-linear art film , and/or commercial videos . Demonstrate multi-camera production techniques and skills in studio and on location. Demonstrate skills and techniques to stage, light, mike, tape, and direct a television shoot. Shoot short pieces for television and prepare the pieces for edit. Use non-linear editing techniques to create and edit a variety of assigned projects. Use a non-linear editing system to edit a film or television project for presentation. Operate equipment in a studio and work with a team to create an in-studio quality video production . Create, produce and screen your own social documentary. Track III: Film Production Develop an outline or a paradigm for a short film script and write a short script. Demonstrate analog and digital recording techniques in the field as well as in a controlled environment. Demonstrate multi-camera production techniques and skills in studio and on location. Shoot a short 16mm or high-definition video project and crew on additional 16mm or high-definition video project shoots. Design, develop and direct a scene from a script with a camera. Use non-linear editing techniques to create and edit a variety of assigned projects. Use a non-linear editing system to edit a film or television project for presentation. Demonstrate the ability to work as a crew member in the pre-production and production activities of real world film production departments. Develop a prospectus for a specific film/video production . Track IV: Editing Demonstrate basic skills in the use of the computer in photographic imaging including photographic manipulation of images using software programs. Demonstrate analog and digital recording techniques in the field as well as in a controlled environment. Use non-linear editing techniques to create and edit a variety of assigned projects. Use a non-linear editing system to edit a film or television project for presentation. Plan and produce a project using computer based video compositing and title animation. Plan and produce a project using advanced non-linear techniques for effect and compositing creation. Use advanced non-linear techniques and applications to create and edit an advanced project. Use advanced non-linear editing techniques to prepare an individual project for entry into a film festival. Track V: Film Analysis and Criticism Produce marketable nonfiction or expository materials for contemporary publications. Analyze the images of women in films from both historical and contemporary perspectives. OR Identify, describe and analyze the unique elements of film noir and review its place in the history of film. Identify and describe the basic elements of contemporary filmmaking and review the major components involved in the business of contemporary film . Identify, describe and analyze unique elements of theme and film style in foreign films . Write well-organized, professional news and feature copy that follows the Associated Press stylebook. Develop an outline or paradigm for a short film script and write a short film script. Evaluate and critique short screenplays. Analyze the impact of various media on culture, society, and the lives of individuals and review significant issues raised by the influence of these media.
