Residential/Industrial Electricity from Schuylkill Technology Centers is a Campus Certificate Electrical Engineering degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. Residential/Industrial Electricity is a 1080 hour program. Electricians assemble, maintain, and install electrical systems for heating, power, air-conditioning, and refrigeration. This program provides a thorough background in residential and industrial wiring and related fields. Students receive instruction in design and installing electrical systems, reading blueprints, troubleshooting, and installing industrial wiring. Students also study DC and AC motors along with controlling them. Tranformers and three phase conversions are covered as well. FUNDAMENTALS OF BASIC ELECTRICITY ~ 90hr/3cr In this course the student is introduced to the basic principles of electricity. It also covers splicing of conductors and soldering. The course then goes into the basic principles of circuitry using low voltage bell wiring. BASIC RESIDENTIAL CIRCUITRY ~ 90hr/3cr This course puts emphasis on the series and parallel circuits. The effects of voltage, current, and resistance in these circuits is explored. The course then goes into basic residential circuitry with relationship to the National Electrical Code. The student is also trained how to operate various meters. RESIDENTIAL WIRING ~ 180 hr/6cr This course puts emphasis on the more complex residential circuits including switches, receptacles, and various circuits. Floor plans and electrical symbols with respect to the N.E.C. are studied. RESIDENTIAL SERVICES & HEATING ~ 180hr/6cr Here the aspects and code requirements for installation of an electrical service are covered. The changing over of an electrical service from an older one to a new one is discussed with emphasis on the N.E.C. Electric baseboard heating is also covered along with circuit design and estimating of heater size. ADVANCED ELECTRICAL WIRING ~ 90hr/3cr The aspects of low voltage remote control wiring, wire mold, and installation of fluorescent lighting are covered. FUNDAMENTALS OF MAGNETISM ~ 90hr/3cr This course is an introduction to magnetism as it relates to the field of electricity and machinery. FUNDAMENTALS OF DC MOTORS & GENERATORS ~ 90hr/3cr In this course magnetism is covered with respect to the generation of DC. The operation of DC motors and industrial two and three wire controls are also covered. FUNDAMENTALS OF MAGNETIC CONTROLS ~ 180hr/6cr This course covers the various types of industrial controls such as forward/reverse controls, plugging, and various switching devices. ALTERNATING CURRENT & MACHINERY ~ 90hr/3crHere the course goes into the theory of alternating current and circuitry. The student is introduced to three phase systems, operation of transformers as well as AC motors. View more details on Schuylkill Technology Center .
