Marketing from Schuylkill Technology Centers is a Campus Certificate Marketing degree that prepares you for a Business career. This 1080 hour program introduces students to marketing , retailing, and merchandising. Class is held in a classroom in the Lifelong Learning Center at the Schuylkill Mall. Students are given the opportunity to actually work at various jobs in different kinds of retail stores. SALESMANSHIP ~ 90hr/3cr Personal and economic aspects of selling through the actual selling process. Product analysis, buying, sales, ethics, and consumer buying habits. RETAILING ~ 90hr/3cr Merchandising, store operations, control and credit, sales promotion, employee relations, and retail operations with balance between the sales, buying, and planning. VISUAL MERCHANDISING ~90hr/3cr An awareness of the various theories, styles, and designs applied in display is developed and taught in this course. Students use basic visual merchandising techniques to devise their own display and those in various retail settings. APPLIED ECONOMICS ~ 90hr/3cr The basic concepts of economics identified by the National Council on Education. Theoretical learning is enhanced by the experience of organizing and operating a business by a computerized simulation and monthly visits from a business consultant. PERSONAL COMPUTER BASICS ~ 90hr/3cr The foundation necessary for completing Marketing concepts and projects. Some elements include Windows, Letter Styles, and Print Shop. MARKETING INTERNSHIP I ~ 90hr/3cr Students intern with a variety of employers to learn a specialized marketing area. Workplace activities may include special projects, a sample of tasks from different jobs, or tasks from a single occupation. This does not include financial compensation. ADVERTISING ~ 90hr/3cr An introduction to the fundamentals of advertising: promotions, effective messages, and advertising formats. Students design and create advertisements. MARKETING RESEARCH ~ 90hr/3cr Revolves around marketing surveys which are designed , utilized, and evaluated by the students and a business mentor. Basic techniques in marketing research are taught as an important part of the learning-by-doing concept. PERSONAL COMPUTER APPLICATIONS ~ 90hr/3cr Students will develop budgets, checking programs, business cards, letterheads, and advertising projects. Microsoft Word is used along with Printshop Deluxe. HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ~ 90hr/3cr An analysis of the personnel functions in business and industry are studied. Topics to be covered include selection, placement, training, and the function of managerial responsibilities in a business setting. MARKETING INTERNSHIP II ~ 90hr/3cr Students intern with an employer to learn a specialized Marketing area. Workplace activities may include special projects and a variety of tasks from different jobs in this establishment. ELECTIVES EXTENDED MARKETING INTERNSHIP ~ 90hr/3cr Students intern with an employer to learn about a specialized Marketing Area. This may be excluded if Co-Op is taken. JOB SHADOWING ~ 90hr/3cr Students may choose to pursue time shadowing in a business related to marketing . This may be excluded if co-op is chosen. COOPERATIVE EDUCATION ~ 90hr/3cr Instruction is paralleled by academic and vocational studies in this two semester program.
