Computer Programming from Schuylkill Technology Centers is a Campus Certificate Programming degree that prepares you for a IT career. Computer Programming is a 1080 hour program that covers general computer literacy by introducing terminology and common business applications. The emphasis then shifts to computer programming languages. Several are taught on IBM compatible PC?s and some on the minicomputer, AS/400. These languages include: C++, Control Language, and RPG400. INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING ~ 180hr/6cr Learn to use simple midrange (AS400) computer commands, design menus, design a database and use SQL to query the file, and transfer files from a midrange computer to a PC application such as Excel. INTRODUCTION TO MINICOMPUTER OPERATIONS ~ 180hr/6cr The student will demonstrate a knowledge of hardware components, terminology, and common control language (CL) commands. Students learn security and device configuration fundamentals, how to send and receive messages, manage printer, diskettes, and tapes, and create physical and logical files. Menus are designed, Query/SQL is explored, and the integration of PC?s with the AS/400 is also covered using Client Access. PC APPLICATIONS ~ 180hr/6cr Data base management includes file creation, adding, editing records, and performing simple searches and sorts on data. Reports, other special forms, and queries are also introduced. Advanced students learn introductory SQL commands as well. Learn how to create, edit, and print simple spreadsheets. Formula creation and copying, as well as formatting, will also be covered. Chart creation and editing is also covered. With the multimedia presentation tools, learn to create, edit, and run slide presentations using templates and text, clip art, transitions, and audio. INTERMEDIATE AS/400 OPERATIONS ~ 180hr/6cr The student will demonstrate knowledge of AS/400 hardware components, history, and terminology. Common control language (CL) commands including object management, basic security, handling spool files, working with jobs and messages will be covered. An introduction to Operations Navigator, a graphical tool, Query and Client Access will also be covered. INTRODUCTION TO RPG 400 ~ 180hr/6cr Course covers the creation of simple input/output programs, headings, math and logic, and looping operations. Physical files and logical files are also described. Advanced students use report layout utility. INTRODUCTION TO CONTROL LANGUAGE ~ 180hr/6cr Learn fundamentals of control language programming . Enter simple CL programs, define and use variables and expressions, and learn how to write logical expressions using operators and looping techniques. Learn to use math operations, error handling, and the job log. Advanced students create menus and work with file and directory Unix commands. ELECTIVES INTRODUCTION TO VISUAL BASIC ~ 180hr/6cr Learn to create projects in Visual Basic by setting control properties, working with controls such as list boxes, shape controls, scroll bars, check boxes, and the introductory coding needed to develop such properties. Logic, looping, and string manipulation is covered as well as including graphics into programs. Dialog boxes, error trapping, using random and sequential files, searching and sorting are also introduced. Advanced students will modify VB programs/macros in other applications. INTERMEDIATE CONTROL LANGUAGE ~ 180hr/6cr Learn to write more complicated CL programs to aide in daily routines such as startup and backups. Write programs using math operators, error handling routines, and use of the job log. Unix file and directory commands are also introduced. INTERMEDIATE RPG IV ~ 180hr/6cr Learn to write interactive programs and use tables and arrays. Advanced data manipulation techniques will be covered and converting traditional ?green screens? to web applications will be introduced. INTRODUCTION TO C++ ~ 180hr/6cr Learn the structure of the language, how to write and compile source code, how to declare variables and constants, and how to format output and input information from the keyboard. Logic, looping, and functions are also introduced. Emphasis is placed on documentation and structure.
