Corrections is the final component of the criminal justice system, and it is a vital one. Corrections officers maintain physical custody of prisoners, process and classify new prisoners, administer first aid, feed, clothe, inspect cells, supervise trustees, transport prisoners to and from physicians and dentists for medical treatment, move prisoners to and from court as required, and transport prisoners both intra and interstate, at which time wearing of a firearm is required. Correctional officers also assume an intregal role in the rehabilitation phase, and prepare the incarcerated individual for their eventual return to society to be a productive member. Corrections Deputy salary is on parity with road Deputy Sheriff's salary. There are excellent promotional opportunities, as promotions are within the Corrections bureau. Our Corrections program has experienced academic success, with the last ten Corrections classes attaining a 95% passing rate on the state certification examination, on their first attempt; with six of those classes, achieving a 100% passing rate, on their first attempt. Out of the previous three graduating classes, two of those classes, placed number two in the state academically, scoring an average of 89.9%, and 91.04% respectively, on the state certification examination. The program has also experienced physical fitness success, as improvement was evident on all physical training testing categories during the Academy. The last class, the 70th Corrections Recruit Class, also set a milestone by completing 70,000 push-ups during the Academy; (after all, it was the 70th class!). This feat not only kept them in great shape, but also enhanced their camaraderie, esprit de corps, discipline and a great sense of accomplishment. We have a top notch instructional staff, which includes supervisory personnel from our local jail facility who provide hands-on, ?real time? up to the minute procedural, as well as operational information and strategies (a jail tour, as well as ?role play? scenarios, are also scheduled).
