Politics from Santa Fe University of Art and Design is a Campus Bachelor Public Administration degree that prepares you for a Human Services career. The study of politics in the traditional program is not standard fare. Typical approaches to political science seek out scientific laws that will predict, for example, voting or policy outcomes, or whether country A will invade country B. The effort to be scientific means avoiding value judgments by focusing on what ?is? rather than on what ?should be.? We believe, in contrast, that learning to be active citizens in a democracy demands a strong foundation in ?what should be,? and that policy outcomes cannot in fact be fully understood without attending to the historical and cultural contexts in which they are embedded. This approach requires moving beyond the study of government , into social, cultural and economic analyses. It also means looking seriously at real alternatives to hierarchical and bureaucratic structures of decision-making. Thus, the study of politics at CSF is an interdisciplinary and liberating enterprise. Consequently, students majoring in politics have the opportunity to explore the full range of their intellectual interests, to minor in one or more disciplines, and even pursue a second major. Areas of special strength in the Politics Program include political economy, political theory, law, Latin American studies, and environmental politics. Students with a B.A. in politics have gone to law school and graduate studies in a number of social science disciplines, and to careers in public service, broadly understood.
