Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) is a medical specialty dealing with the clinical diagnosis and treatment of the electrical function of the heart. Cardiac rhythm disturbances such as bradyarrhythmias, tachyarrhythmias and heart block can be diagnosed and treated through procedures such as pacemaker implantation, defibrillator implantation, and radiofrequency ablation. Cardiac EP is a rapidly growing field that has experienced tremendous advances in the identification of the causes of heart rhythm abnormalities and the methods of successfully treating these arrhythmias. Students in the Cardiac EP Program will study the heart?s normal electrical function, analysis of cardiac arrhythmias, basic techniques utilized in the EP laboratory and the advanced techniques required of the intervention procedures or treatments. The students will complete an eight month instruction in online classroom, on-site laboratory and selected clinical sites. Students who complete the program are awarded an advanced training certificate in Cardiac Electrophysiology and are eligible to challenge the national credentialing examination. The Cardiac Electrophysiology Program is one of only a few programs of its type in the United States.
