Also, technicians will be needed to enter patient information into computer databases to comply with Federal legislation mandating the use of electronic medical records. Our Program Sandhills Community College and Pitt Community College have a collaborative agreement that will allow students in the Sandhills area to attend classes at Sandhills and take classes online at Pitt to graduate with a degree in Health Information Technology (HIT). Graduates from the HIT program will be prepared to supervise departmental functions; classify, code and index diagnoses and procedures; coordinate information for cost control, quality management, statistics, marketing and planning; monitor governmental and non-governmental standards; facilitate research; and design system controls to monitor patient information security. The HIT curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to process, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, manage, and report health information .
