The B.S. in Television, Film, and New Media Production (TFM) is designed to prepare students in the moving image arts for a variety of careers in television, film, and new media production, as well as media distribution, and management in a rapidly evolving technological environment. The program focuses on the skills needed by producers, directors, cinematographers, videographers, sound and lighting designers, editors, animators, art directors, and writers in both fiction and non fiction storytelling. Program Overview This is an exciting time to be a media student at SDSU. The department combines film, television and digital technologies and provides industry and festival screenings, and regional/national television exposure for outstanding student productions. Production courses (studio and field location) require students to produce both fiction and non fiction works and serve as crew on the projects of peers. There is interaction with students in the Theatre, Music, Art, and Dance Departments resulting in a community of artists whose disciplines reinforce each other. In short, the TFM curriculum is strongly production oriented, professional in outlook and expectation, highly competitive, and grounded in the theory and history of mass media.
