Program Overview The School of Nursing at SDSU offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in California and certification as a public health nurse. The four-year undergraduate curriculum leading to the degree requires an intensive program of study, a disciplined commitment to professional ideals, and a genuine concern for people. After completion of the lower division prerequisite coursework, nursing majors are admitted to a program that consists of co-requisites and courses in nursing science, client relationships, adult and child health, maternal and neonatal health, and psychosocial nursing. The senior year provides each nursing major with courses in management and community health nursing, and an elective in major health problems in the acute care or ambulatory setting. Career Opportunities Nurses are in great demand throughout the country and are needed in such settings as acute care hospitals, community health agencies, outreach programs, public schools, health maintenance organizations, and clinics which serve disadvantaged, ethnically diverse, and rural populations. Career opportunities are particularly good for bilingual and/or bicultural persons, and men.
