Art History from Roanoke College is a Campus Bachelor Art History degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. The history of art is the history of the images, objects, and visual experiences that humankind has produced. Art is at times sumptuous and inspiring, at times challenging and provocative. It has been used for solemn contemplation and social propaganda, to express power and articulate emotions. To study the history of art is to engage with the visual record of our experiences of the world around us and our endeavors, over centuries, to give that world meaning - private, communal, spiritual, or otherwise. It is a training for the eyes and the mind that leads students to some of humankind\\\'s most dazzling accomplishments while simultaneously preparing them for critically tackling artists\\\' most cunning deceptions. The Art History program at Roanoke College offers a bachelor of arts or a minor in art history as well as a concentration in Classics & the Ancient Mediterranean World. Art History is part of the Fine Arts Department; we are located in Olin Hall. Employment and Graduate Study Outcomes Ninety-five percent of Roanoke College seniors get jobs or pursue graduate school within six months of graduation. Examples of institutions where recent art history majors have gone to graduate school include the University of Maryland, the University of East Anglia (UK), the Courtauld Institute (London) and Sotheby\\\'s (New York).
