Agri-Business from Ridgewater College - Wilmar is a Campus Associate Agribusiness degree that prepares you for a Agriculture career. About the Program This program prepares students for occupations in ag-related businesses in the areas of feeds, seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, agricultural products, equipment, petroleum, agricultural services and office management. Students may pursue an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree . The AAS Degree consists of substituting 20 credits of technical agriculture with 20 credits of general education courses. Sustainable agriculture and environmental concerns are areas which will see increased emphasis. The Ridgewater College Ag Department is unique among community/technical colleges in Minnesota in those students are allowed to specialize in the interest areas by taking 15 credits of specialized courses. There is a 3-credit internship in the fall and spring semesters of each year. This is the largest 2-year agriculture program in Minnesota. Specializations available include: Dairy Science Petroleum Sales Crop Science Agronomy Tech Office Management Management and Sales Animal Science Career/Occupational Info Agriculture continues to be an extremely fast-changing, high-tech industry. As farms have become larger and less numerous, this change in farms has created tremendous career possibilities for Agri-Business graduates. Many agri-business firms are providing more and more services to these larger farms. Services such as crop scouting, precision ag services, GPS soil sampling, and satellite controlled yield monitors are common today. All these extra services require more highly skilled and educated ag business employees. Career opportunities for Agri-Business graduates are increasing. Modern day agri-businesses require the services of educated, competent and dedicated employees to provide the supplies and services that farmers need. Each year there are at least five jobs available per graduate in Agri-Business. We anticipate these opportunities will continue into the foreseeable future.
