The Department of Dance offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees with concentrations in the following areas: Ballet Jazz Modern Dance Pedagogy Degrees Bachelor of Arts-Dance The Bachelor of Arts degree program with a major in dance consists of 120 credits, of which 63-64 credits are in dance . Students select one of the three dance 23-24-credit concentrations: ballet, jazz or modern. By carefully choosing from the available elective courses and consulting with the appropriate department chair and/or academic advisors, students may pursue a double major, or one or more minors. A bachelor of arts degree in dance requires the completion of 125 credits consisting of 63-64 department requirements, 23-24 major concentration requirements, nine general department requirements, 36 credits in the University core curriculum and 17-16 in general University electives. Bachelor of Arts-Pedagogy The Bachelor of Arts degree program with a major in dance pedagogy consists of 123 credits. The Bachelor of Arts degree provides an integrated dance and pedagogy approach for students who wish to focus on teaching rather than performing. The degree is based on the premise that in order to become a teacher of the arts, a person must be uniquely suited by personality, training and desire. The curriculum consists of a philosophical and academic foundation along with psychological and educational components. Students select one of the three dance 15-credit concentrations: ballet, jazz or modern. A bachelor of arts degree in dance pedagogy requires the completion of 123 credits consisting of 45 department major requirements, nine credits in psychology requirements, five credits in dance concentration, 36 credits in the University core curriculum and eight in general University electives. Bachelor of Fine Arts Students who, in the judgment of the faculty, have the potential to succeed in professional dance or theatre may pursue the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program after completion of the first year. Students who wish to be considered for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree must make application to the faculty before February 1 of their sophomore year. In the case of transfer students, the application must be made by February 1 of their second term at Point Park University . All other students in the dance program qualify for the Bachelor of Arts program. For the B.F.A. degree, the department requires 139 credits, of which 88 credits are in dance . A concentration of 36 credits in ballet, jazz or modern is included.
