The faculty of the Civil Engineering Technology program have established the 15 outcomes listed below for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree . (Students pursuing an Associate in Science degree are expected to achieve a subset of these outcomes.) Students? success in achieving these outcomes is measured regularly using a variety of assessment tools such as in-class problems and surveys. 1. Students will analyze and design structures made of steel and reinforced concrete. 2. Students will analyze and design sanitary and storm sewer systems, freshwater supply systems, and landfills in conformance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and standards. 3. Students will analyze and design highways and the concrete and asphalt mixes used to construct them. 4. Students will determine the structural properties of materials using a knowledge of soil mechanics, geology, and materials science. 5. Students will use both modern and classical surveying techniques to make accurate, properly-documented measurements of structures and terrain. 6. Students will apply standard formulas, graphs, and tables to solve problems throughout the curriculum and will understand the limitations of these standard methods. 7. Students will use computers, computer programming languages, and application-specific software to analyze and design systems and to acquire and process data. 8. Students will apply principles of physics, chemistry, and mathematics to the solution of practical problems in science and technology , including new and unfamiliar problems. 9. Students will work in teams to design and carry out experiments, measure and analyze data, conduct surveys, and design systems. 10. Students will use statistical, time value of money, and critical path techniques to manage projects. 11. Students will prepare clear, precise, and effective technical documents and oral presentations with the help of modern technology such as spreadsheets, word processors, and presentation software. 12. Students will be familiar with the major professional societies in their discipline and will understand the requirements and benefits of membership in these societies. 13. Students will understand the ethical implications of their work and will be familiar with the laws, codes, and specifications governing the professional conduct of those practicing civil engineering . 14. Students will have an appreciation for the arts, the humanities, and their own and other cultures. 15.
