Students have completed their mission internships locally with Homes for Hope in Stanly County, North Carolina, as well as traveled to China?and many places in between. Other student internships have been teaching English as a Second Language to immigrants in Union County, creating rural affordable housing in South Carolina, assisting homeless families transition to permanent housing, and leading a mission trips to Cuba , Guatemala and Nicaragua. Recent graduates have used their skills to serve as Youth Ministers and led their youth on international and national mission trips. Recent graduates have gone on to receive their Master of Divinity and a Master?s in Marriage and Family Therapy in graduate school. Other graduates are working in local churches, NGOs and mission organizations. The Christian Missions major prepares one to be a missionary and work in cross-cultural ministry. This degree is designed to nurture and train those who have felt called to mission service. Drawing on the expertise of the faculty, the degree explores the missional nature of the Gospel and how it can be presented in cross-cultural settings. Founded on a sound biblical and theological base, this major provides students with cross-cultural communication skills to meet the challenges of proclaiming the Christian message in a pluralistic world. Classes in anthropology, communications and world religions prepare students for ministry in a multitude of settings in a global environment with increased technology and international travel. Coursework in faith development and worship encourage students to reflect on how one can witness to their faith in meaningful worship styles in a variety of settings. One year of language study is required to develop competency in a modern language. Completion of the Christian Missions major requires 51 Semester Hours?including the internship.
