Career Skills: A Medical Administrative Assistant is responsible for answering telephones, scheduling patients, patient chart preparation, filing and billing. Handles completion of medical insurance forms, types correspondence and reports using personal computer. This requires detailed knowledge of computers and their related software packages: Microsoft Office 2003. Medical Billing Clerk serves medical insurance customers by determining insurance coverage; examining and resolving medical claims; documenting actions; maintaining quality customer services and billing accordingly. Documents medical claims actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records. Maintains quality customer services by following proper customer service practices and responding to customer inquiries. Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information. This requires detailed knowledge of computers and their related software packages and strong organization skills. A Medical Records Coder is able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of coding guidelines and practices to include accurate assignment of ICD-9-CM and CPT codes, appropriate DRG assignment, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with medical staff and ancillary departments regarding coding issues.
