Early Childhood Education from Pennsylvania Highlands Community College is a Campus Associate Early Childhood Education degree that prepares you for a Education career. Early Childhood Education/Inclusion focuses on developing children?s social, intellectual, and psychological capacities from birth to around the age of eight. The program provides an educational foundation that helps to create quality teachers and careworkers for the next generation. Topics such as literacy, teaching methodology, and inclusion are emphasized. Students will be encouraged to apply positive values, attitudes and knowledge in order to be a motivated and effective educator. Students then apply the theories which they have learned in the classroom to ?real-life? situations in field experiences. During their course of study, students are required to maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. and participate in a minimum of 210 hours of preservice teaching. Students are also required to meet certain Pennsylvania regulations regarding clearances and health requirements. Upon completion of the program, graduates may choose to further their education at a four-year institution or pursue employment opportunities in a variety of positions including pre-school teacher, teaching assistant, or work in a care program such as Head Start. In addition, graduates are eligible to apply for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Private Academic School Nursery/Kindgarten Assistant Teacher certificate.
