Automotive Technology from Peninsula College is a Campus Associate Automotive degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. Overview The Peninsula College Automotive Technology Program belongs to an elite group of training facilities across the nation that are nationally certified by NATEF, the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, an affiliate of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This certification assures our students that they have the highest quality of instruction, laboratory experience, and equipment available. Our program instructor is \\\"master\\\" certified in all eight automotive areas, and in Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks. Our goal at Peninsula College is to help you develop the knowledge and skills you need to become ASE certified. Our school is one of the official ASE testing sites, and the test is offered on our campus twice a year. All of our students are free to select those areas in which they wish to be certified. Some elect to specialize in one or two primary fields and seek certification only in those ASE areas. Many others choose to test in all subject areas and leave our program \\\"Master Certified\\\" in all eight major automotive areas. Curriculum Peninsula College\\\'s Automotive Program is founded on a carefully planned, competency-based curriculum that allows you to combine theory (30%) with hands-on experience (70%) in all systems, automotive engines, auto power trains, brakes, transmissions, fuel systems, emission control, and air conditioning and heating. Practical service experience is gained by working in the college\\\'s advanced automotive shop under the close supervision of qualified instructors where both \\\"live\\\" work and class projects are a regular part of the instruction. During the spring quarter of your second year in the program, you will have the opportunity to pursue work-related studies that offer you the opportunity to work in an area automotive shop. Students who complete the entire two-year Automotive Technology Program receive an A.A.S. degree . Career Opportunities Each year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases information on occupations that are most in need of qualified people, and Automotive Technicians are always on the list. Data released by the Bureau in 1999 revealed a nationwide shortage of more than 60,000 trained technicians . The bureau projects positions will continue to increase by 10 to 20 percent through at least 2006. Graduates from our program can have had their pick of positions when it comes to looking for career employment. Many are successfully employed as automotive technicians, drivability specialists, sales persons, maintenance managers, service writers, and parts counter persons. Others are successful entrepreneurs or owners/managers for large national automotive and automotive parts companies. View more details on Peninsula College .
