Tractor Trailer Driver Training from Parkland College is a Campus Certificate Construction Engineering degree that prepares you for a Engineering career. The Tractor Trailer Driver Training course prepares students for an entry-level position in the trucking industry under the direct supervision of a licensed instructor. This program provides 160 hours of training: 40 hours of classroom training, 60 hours of yard skills and 60 hours of road skills. It also includes a Commercial Driver?s License learner?s permit and endorsement preparation, Department of Transportation log books, map reading, trip planning and Secretary of State Class A road test. A high school diploma or GED is not required. Students must be able to read and write the English language, be over 21, be able to meet the federal Department of Transportation physical requirements, and have a valid driver?s license at the time of registration. The course will train those 18 and over, but has limited job placement assistance for anyone under the age of 21. The following may disqualify you from entering the truck driving course: A driving record inconsistent with industry standards for entry-level driving positions Any substance-related violations on your motor vehicle record in the past three years Recent felony convictions or criminal background History of drug or alcohol abuse History of mental disorder Permanent disability or physical limitations It is recommended that applicants obtain a copy of their Motor Vehicle Report from the Secretary of State?s office (Driver?s License Bureau) prior to starting the course.
