The highlight of these programs is Marine Biology (BI450/451), a 16- credit intensive, lecture-and-field course taken in residence at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport (50 miles west from the OSU main campus). During this 10- week spring course, students live at the center and participate in a wide variety of lecture, fi eld, and laboratory activities. Entry into BI 450/451 is by application only (in the fall) and generally requires a 3.0 GPA. The College of Science has two excellent exchange programs with opportunities in marine sciences. Students can go to the University of Auckland, New Zealand, which offers excellent marine and environmental science courses. Students can also choose to go abroad to the University of Wales, Bangor, which features the finest undergraduate marine laboratory in Europe. The OSU College of Oceanography only offers graduate degrees in physical, chemical, biological, and geological oceanography , as well as marine resource management. However, they do offer an undergraduate oceanography minor. Career Opportunities A number of science majors in the College of Science, such as biochemistry, biological sciences (biology, botany, microbiology, zoology), chemistry, environmental sciences, geography, geology, mathematics, and physics, can prepare students for graduate studies in oceanography .
