Program Overview Government is the study of how people govern and are governed--and with what results--in cities, states and nations. The government major at ORU examines power and authority relations in human communities...their foundations and institutional organizations and how these are used to make public policy. Through study of the institutional structures by which national and world affairs are conducted, students gain understanding of how their world fits into our modern global context. The study of the history, the impact and the inner workings of governments and laws in light of Judeo-Christian values and principles provides a sound foundation and prepares students for rewarding careers in several fields. When combined with an appropriate graduate degree , the study of government is an excellent preparation for law, business, journalism, Christian ministries and missions. Since political decision-making touches all aspects of life, its study opens new perspectives for all Christian citizens and professionals. The government major at ORU offers three areas of concentration: practical politics, international relations or pre-law studies. Students interested in law usually choose an appropriate major, such as history or government, and add the pre-law concentration. A government minor is also available.
