Insurance and Risk Management from Olivet College is a Campus Bachelor Insurance degree that prepares you for a Business career. The Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) Program at Olivet College , created by the insurance industry in 1980, is considered one of the top risk management and insurance undergraduate education programs in the United States based on the following criteria: ? curriculum ? faculty ? co-curricular activities ? industry involvement The IRM Major is integrated with co-curricular activities of the Alpha Alpha chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, which helps students to develop group collaboration, management and leadership skills, prepare for internship and employment interviews, and network with insurance and risk management professionals where they work. The IRM major is a full four-year program; students take IRM and other business courses throughout their four-years of study; not just in their junior and senior years as at most major schools. Small class sizes encourage maximum student/faculty interaction. Course materials are developed by the risk management and insurance industry, are widely-recognized and continuously updated, and also assist students in preparing for national exams leading to the ARM, AIS, AAI, AU, AIC, ASLI, ARE, CPCU professional designations. We emphasize individual and social responsibility throughout curriculum, and ?uberrima fides? (utmost good faith) in all risk management and insurance courses. We encourage students to keep up-to-date in current IRM issues and global risk management by reading current insurance periodicals such as the National Underwriter, Business Insurance, Best?s Review, and Risk Management and a summer reading list. The IRM program also features intensive learning terms in the insurance capitals New York City and London, England, with other industry networking trips to Chicago and Toronto. Course work emphasizes analytical thinking, critical thinking, and application of material to case studies and simulations, rather than memorization alone. The faculty includes 30 to 40 instructors from a cross section of the insurance and risk management professional business and regulatory community ? such as agents, claims adjusters, marketers, underwriters, corporate risk managers and two full-time professors of risk management and insurance with 33 and 28 years of experience in the insurance field respectively, both published, industry consultants, who serve on numerous industry committees. The faculty are advised on curriculum and co-curricular activities by a committee of 35 professionals representing a cross-section of the risk management and insurance industry. In addition to the course requirements, an internship is required and at least 3 internship credits must be earned before graduation. Students that wish to enroll in 300-level and 400-level IRM classes must have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (average of all classes completed at Olivet College), must maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average to continue to take 300-level and 400-level IRM classes, and must have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average to graduate from Olivet College with the IRM major.
