East Asian Studies from Ohio University - Main Campus is a Campus Certificate Area Studies degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. The Center for International Studies offers certificates in African, Asian , European, Latin American, Southeast Asian and War and Peace Studies for students who wish to add an international dimension to their major, or who are interested in an international career or graduate work in area studies . The certificate is noted on your transcript upon graduation. The East Asian Studies Certificate is open to students from any major. It will provide undergraduates with a broad understanding of East Asia, as well as with language skills applicable for a wide variety of professions. The curriculum involves courses from four University colleges and many disciplines, and it includes opportunity for education abroad in China at the Ohio Shandong Center in East Asian Studies . A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required in certificate courses. Complete 20 hours from at least 3 departments in the East Asian Area Studies courses, including no more than 4 hours in language coursework. Complete two years or equivalent in East Asian language(s) coursework. Students may petition the Certificate Director to have a language they take elsewhere fulfill the requirement. Courses taken to satisfy this requirement will not count towards the Language Requirement. Asian languages taught at Ohio University: Chinese or Japanese.
